'They believed in us': Five-day retreat at Camp Dellwater north of Bemidji focuses on recovery

Caroline Buckanaga-Keezer and her husband Darian Keezer will spend their fourth wedding anniversary at the place that made their marriage possible: the annual Overcomers Family Camp.

The five-day retreat aims to give families—particularly those struggling with addictions—a nudge in the right direction, and focuses on Native American communities from across Minnesota and Canada. The camp is run by Gordon and Sheila Thayer, who have been active in Native communities in Wisconsin and Minnesota for decades.

Caroline and Darian fit the bill; the couple overcame heroin addictions and were sober for about a year before they got married at the camp in 2013.
